ICAS 2004 Match Phases Arrangement

I. Introduction:
Due to the uncertainty of the team numbers of ICAS match, the match phases should be arranged according to the actual situation and the principle of fair play. ICAS 2004 established the match phases arrangement for 8 national teams.

II. Match Phases:
1. Phase 1: Group Round Robin; each team takes 3 rounds in each group.
The 8 national teams are divided into two groups: Group A and Group B; take the round robin with score counted. Each two teams take a round of air combat in each group. When all the round robins finished, the 1st-4th teams are determined according to the victory/defeat of the 3 rounds of each team. If both sides have the same times of victory/defeat, the places of 1st-4th are determined according to their total score. The 1st and 2nd teams of each group enter the semifinal; the 3rd and 4th teams enter the match for 5th-8th of the final.

2. Phase 2: Match for 5th-8th of the final; took by the 3rd and 4th teams of each group in Phase 1; each team takes 4 rounds in this phase.
The 3rd team of Group A in Phase 1 plays with the 4th team of Group B in Phase 1; the 4th team of Group B in Phase 1 plays with the 3rd team of Group B in Phase 1. Each pair of teams takes two rounds of air combat. The winners enter the match for 5th-6th; other two teams enter the match for 7th-8th. Each pair of teams takes two rounds of air combat. Each team of 5th-8th takes altogether 7 rounds of formal match (not including the extra rounds).

3. Phase 3: Semifinal; took by the 1st and 2nd teams of each group in Phase 1; each team takes 3 rounds in this phase.
The 1st team of Group A in Phase 1 plays with the 2nd team of Group B in Phase 1; the 2nd team of Group A in Phase 1 plays with the 1st team of Group B in Phase 1. Each pair of teams takes 3 rounds of air combat. The two teams which win 2 rounds enter the final match. If each team of one pair won a round and tied a round, the winner is determined by its total score of the 3 rounds in Phase 3.

4. Phase 4: Match for 3rd-4th of the final; took by the two defeated teams in Phase 3; each team takes 3 rounds in this phase.
The two teams take 3 rounds of air combat and determine the 3rd-4th of the final.

5. Phase 5: Final Match for the Champion and Runner-up; took by the winners in Phase 3; each team takes 3 rounds in this phase.
The two winners of the Semifinal take 3 rounds of air combat and determine the Champion and Runner-up of ICAS 2004.

III. Extra Match:
If each team of one pair has the same rounds of victory/defeat and the same score, they need to take the extra match of at least one round and no upper limit until the winner is determined.

IV. Fighter Type Selecting Rules of Each Phase in ICAS 2004:
According to ICAS Final Rules and ICAS 2004 Match Phases Arrangement, the live LAN match fighter type selection follows these rules:
1. Phase 1-3: each team has the right of choosing from all types of the fighters. However, if one plane of a team didn't land on its own runway safely in a round, or the team gained no score for military success in a round during Phase 1-3, this type of fighter can't be chose again in the following phases in Phase 1-3.
2. Phase 4-5: each team has the right of choosing from all types of the fighters. However, if one plane of a team didn't land on its own runway safely or gained no score for military success in a round during Phase 4-5, this type of fighter can't be chose again in the following phases in Phase 4-5.
3. If it needs to take extra match and one side has no fighter type to choose, it doesn't need to take extra match and the other side wins automatically.
4. If it needs to take extra match and both sides have no fighter type to choose, they can choose the fighter freely.
